Playing with Scale

I got around to fixing the RSS feed today (19th Feb). If you didn’t know we had one, it’s available here.

There’s a few other important bits to get out of the way before we get into the changes.

New Minimum Version

ConwyMC now has a new minimum version you'll need to connect with. You must now connect with at least 1.20.5. We would always recommend joining on the same version as the server (1.21.3) but allow joining on the lowest version reasonably possible.

Tales of War

Over on our Discord we have a partnership with Tales of War where we each share the other’s news. Both have a test session this Friday (21st). To avoid competing for players (and also so I can play ToW), ConwyMC will be shutting down the server once the ToW’s test session starts. The server will be started again one ToW’s test session has completed.

V4 Titles

If you’ve been waiting for your V4 Tester title, have no fear! It’s now been granted! As long as you earnt 1 score prior to todays reset, you’ll now have the title! You can equip it with /cosmetics

Changed

  • Minimum client version is now 1.20.5
  • /flags now shows flag counts for each team
  • Tweaked OwOner chat colour
  • Paladin now gets an action bar message showing how many blocks are left
  • Disabled /coinshop (will be brought back eventually, but is broken currently)
  • Crossbowman now has only one item to switch mode
  • Every kit has had its abilities’ code reviewed and many rewritten. Expect bugs.
  • Lives are now displayed on every page
  • /topmatch was renamed to /topmap. /topgame alias remains as is.
    • Added a temporary error message about the rename.
  • /kit GUI now displays when a kit cannot be selected due to limits with purple stained glass.

Levels

So, after the release of level advancements, it became clear getting to level 10 was easy, but after that the difference between levels grew too fast. For example, to get the level 20 title, you’d need 16847 total score. However, to reach level 40 for the chat colour? 104003 total score. Over 6x as much experience.


So we've decided to change the requirements for each level. The first 10 levels will be slightly harder to obtain, but then it flips. Levels 11-40 will have lower requirements than previously.
To help test this change, all levels, all-time score and coins have been reset.

Map Updates

Soldier’s Peak

Soldier’s Peak is now Charge. This means the attackers need to capture all the flags to win, and in order (listed on the scoreboard). The map now starts with 10 minutes on the clock, with time added for each flag fully captured by the attackers.


The map is designed linearly, and after the 2nd ram is breached players tended to spread out and not meet each other as often. So we've decided to reduce the area of play for the map in this method. Hopefully it will mean more competition for each flag, and we'll carefully watch to see if the time added for each flag is fair.

Oh, and it should now be fully (new) Halberdier friendly!

Toumont

Toumont is now Assault! The defenders start with 35 lives. The attackers do not have lives.

Halls of Herakles

Halls of Herakles is now Charge. This one didn’t exactly need tweaking, but I’m curious if this will make the map better by bringing everyone together. It was originally designated as assault thanks to the secrets granting routes to other flags. However, they all begin from the centre of the map, so were secrets rather than alternative routes to go behind the enemy.


A key change from all other Charge maps, Halls of Herakles flags can be recapped by the defenders, even when fully capped.

Map Rotation

We’d like to get into the habit of changing the active map pool every month alongside another update. So we did for last Friday. There was a vote on Discord for one map to remove (based on “no” votes with /mapvote, and one map to add.

Balanced

Barbarian

  • Damage is now between 36 and 70 depending on remaining health.
    • Previously this could scale to ∞ making the class a teeny bit too strong.

Halberdier

This is part of the Halberdier Attribute test, named because most of these are configured through attributes.

  • Increased scale by +30%.
    • Was +40% last Friday, but was reduced to allow climbing of ladders
  • Increased reach by +30% (to match size)
    • Was +40% last Friday to match scale
  • Reduced speed by 80% (0.1 -> 0.02)
  • Increased step height by 100% (0.6 -> 1.2 blocks)
  • Disabled Jumping
  • Increased gravity by 100% (0.08 -> 0.16) - also slows ladder climbing & increases fall damage
  • Disabled burning outside of fire sources - will still burn inside fire & lava
  • Reduced explosion knockback by 50%
  • Halb is no longer hindered by slowing blocks (berry bushes)
  • Reduced sneaking penalty (30% -> 60% of walk speed)
  • Removed Slowness effect
    • No longer needed as movement speed is changed
  • Granted full hunger
    • Allows for sprinting. Will not affect regeneration.
  • Arrow damage modifier reduced by 0.5 (2.0 -> 1.5)

Medic

  • No limit on placed cakes. All placed cakes removed on death.

Ranger

Rogue

  • Removed Haste
  • Can’t cap flags anymore. There was too much utility for the class, so it’s scope has been reduced.

Vanguard

  • Deals a bonus +53 damage on hit (previously determined by a bug in strength, forcing the change)
  • Ability duration reduced by 2s (8s -> 6s)
  • Ability cooldown reduced by 1.5s (15s -> 13.5s)
  • Ability grants Speed IV (was Speed V)

Viking

  • Health increased by 30 (330 -> 360)
  • Granted 35% of damage as lifesteal
  • Lowered base melee damage to by 11. (16 -> 5)
  • Increase % damage cap on non-players by 500 (500 -> 1000)
    • e.g. Target has 1500 max health, viking deals 5 + (1000 * 15%) = 155 damage. Heals for 155 * 35% = 54.25 health.
    • This existed to prevent Viking melting bosses, but it felt weird to see it below Halberdier’s health.
  • Added minimum target’s max health to heal for non-players of 100.
    • Prevents just killing vanilla mobs for health.

Fixed

  • Fixed Maceman’s stun messages
  • Fixed Paladin having ∞ blessings
  • Fixed a join bug where players would join and then be kicked. They are now just denied access to the server (so no ghost join/leave messages)
  • Fixed /mapvote tab complete
  • Fixed /mapvote error when using incorrect arguments
  • Fixed Engineer traps dealing no damage
  • Fixed lag from Paladin, Warlock & Sorcerer’s AoE abilities.
  • Fixed Soldier’s Peak 2nd ram break leaving behind floating buttons
  • Fixed explosions not destroying blocks on Abrakhan
  • Fixed missing minecarts on Soldier’s Peak’s ballista
  • Fixed not arrow projectiles turning into arrows upon hitting a player on your team (e.g. potions)
  • Fixed Rogue dealing damage while invisible
  • Fixed Rogue not having a cooldown on tracking arrows
  • Fixed Rogue having a voted poison sword when they didn’t vote
  • Fixed /setkitlimit showing you the command usage when you used the command correctly
  • Fixed Hera’s Golden Apple not spawning on Halls of Herakles
  • Fixed message formatting for secret item pickup/drop
  • Fixed eating Hera’s Golden Apple
  • Fixed always dropped a secret item on death after picking it up
  • Fixed Vanguard description
  • Fixed unlocked staff kits not actually being unlocked after relog
